Google Analytics is a great tool if you are a website owner or blogger and everyone who runs a web business needs to be aware of this. It crunches the numbers perfectly and shows in detail the user interaction with your blog. You can also keep track of the traffic on your websites.

However, many users don’t like to have inactive Google Analytics accounts. Even if you close your blog or website, it stays on Google Analytics. This will overload your account, which is unnecessary and tedious. Deleting Google Analytics accounts is not difficult at all. Just follow the directions above.

How to delete your Google Analytics account

With Google Analytics you can create as many accounts as you want in your profile. These accounts can have unlimited properties. You will soon learn how to delete both the properties and the accounts.

To delete a Google Analytics account, do the following:

  1. Remove the Google Analytics tracking code from all of your websites or blogs.
  2. Go to your Google Analytics account and sign in.
  3. Then click the Admin tab in the lower left corner of the Analytics dashboard.
  4. You will see three sections: Account, Property and View. In the account window (left side), select the account that you want to delete. If you have multiple accounts, click the account name in this section.
  5. Go to Account Settings in the Account window.
  6. Choose “Move to Trash”
  7. You will be informed by email that your account will be deleted, as will other users with the privilege to manage users. Now you can set other accounts if you have them or set Google Analytics entirely.

How to delete Google Analytics properties

If you think this is too extreme and you want to keep your Google Analytics account, the only thing you can do is remove individual properties from it. You may have too many inactive properties (domains) to bother you.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to delete Google Analytics properties:

    1. Sign in to Google Analytics again.
    2. Now look at the second tab called Property. Select the property that you want to remove.
    3. Directly below you can see the property settings. Click it.
    4. At the top right you need to click on Move to Trash.
    5. Confirm that you want to delete this property.

    Restoring a Google Analytics Account

That was easy, wasn’t it? If you change your mind, you know you have 35 days to get the property or account back. This will undo the deletion. However, after 35 days, your account or property will be permanently deleted.

To restore an account, you need to select the correct account and find the Recycle Bin in the Account section. Click the account you want to bring back and click Restore.

How to view the changes to your Google Analytics account

If you manage your Google Analytics account with someone else, it is helpful to keep track of changes. You can find a record of all changes in the Change History dialog box.

To access Google Analytics change history:

    1. Sign in to Google Analytics.
    2. Select Settings Gear in the lower left corner.
    3. Go to the Account page and select the account you want to verify.
    4. Now select Change History.

The Change History window contains information about the date and time of activity for that particular account. You’ll see Changed By, which shows who made the changes as more people manage your Google Analytics account.

In the Modify section, you can see the Analytics object, which can be an account, view, user, and so on, and the exact action that was taken on that object. These objects can be deleted, created, etc. If you’ve deleted a property or an account, your affiliates can see when you did it.

Google Analytics records changes for up to two years.

    Account terminated

If you’re tired of too many properties or accounts in Google Analytics, you can follow Arnold Schwarzenegger’s approach and end this. You can track changes at any time and even change your mind and recover the deleted accounts.
